1. Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts Major)
Four Year program
The Department of Visual Arts offers a four-year program leading to the Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts, HBFA(Visual Arts).
Students are required to maintain a B average in their Visual Arts courses in order to remain in the program. All courses will be chosen in consultation with the departmental counselor prior to registration.
First Year:
(a) VISU 1000
(b) VISU 1020
(c) VISU 1010, 1030, 1050 and 1070
(d) VISU 1080
(e) One FCE from Group II (see Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Regulations, First Year Arts Program Grouping Requirements)
Second Year:
(a) VISU 2021
(b) One of the following Visual Art studio courses from second year level: Visual Arts 2041, 2101, 2121, 2143
(c) One studio course from second year level or an elective *
(d) VISU 2220
(e) A second FCE from Group II
Third Year:
(a) VISU 3021
(b) One of the following Visual Arts studio courses from third year level which continues second year choice: Visual Arts 3001, 3041, 3101, 3141
(c) One second or third year Visual Arts studio course or an elective *
(d) One FCE from: Visual Arts 3230, 3231, 3821, 4211, 4213, 4250
(e) One FCE elective from Group 1 (see Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, First Year Arts Program Grouping Requirements)
Fourth Year:
(a) VISU 4010 and VIS 4130
(b) VISU 4140
(c) Another Visual Arts studio course from third or fourth year levels, excluding Major Studio topic (Visual Arts 4140). Fourth year studio courses are: Visual Arts 4003, 4021, 4041, 4101, 4141.
(d) One FCE from: Visual Arts 3230, 3231, 3821, 4211, 4213, 4250
(e) One FCE elective to be determined in consultation with the Department of Visual Arts

* Students wishing to pursue a Master's Degree in studio art (MFA) are advised to select the studio course.
2. Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts Major)
Three Year program
The BA basic requirement is a minimum average of 60% in the Visual Arts courses.
First Year:
(a) Visual Arts 1000, 1020, 1080
(b) Two of: Visual Arts 1010, 1030, 1050, 1070
(c) One FCE from Group II (see Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Regulations, First Year Arts Program Grouping Requirements)
Second Year:
(a) Visual Arts 2021, 2220
(b) Visual Arts Studio course
(c) One FCE from Group II
(d) One FCE elective (Visual Arts allowed)
Third Year:
(a) Visual Arts 3021
(b) One FCE from: Visual Arts 2210, 3230, 3231, 3821, 4211, 4213, 4250
(c) Visual Arts Studio course
(d) One FCE from Group I (see Faculty of Social Science and Humanities Regulations, First Year Arts Program Grouping Requirements) (Visual Arts excluded)
(e) One FCE elective
3. Minor Program in Art History
A minor in Art History requires an overall average of 70% in a minimum of three FCEs in Art History courses, consisting of:
(a) Visual Arts 1080 - History of Art
(b) Visual Arts 2220 - History of Art Since 1900
(c) One FCE in art history chosen from: Visual Arts 3230, 3231, 3821, 4211, 4213, 4250
4. Minor Program in Ceramics
A minor in Ceramics requires an overall average of 70% in the following 3.5 FCEs:
(a) Visual Arts 1050 - Introductory Ceramics
(b) Visual Arts 2101 - Intermediate Ceramics
(c) Visual Arts 3101 - Advanced Ceramics
(d) Visual Arts 4101 - Senior Ceramics Seminar
5. Minor Program in Drawing
A minor in Drawing requires an overall average of 70% in three FCEs in Drawing courses, below:
(a) Visual Arts 1020 - Introductory Drawing
(b) Visual Arts 2021 - Figure Drawing
(c) Visual Arts 3021 - Advanced Drawing
6. Minor Program in Painting
A minor in Painting requires an overall average of 70% in the following 3.5 FCEs:
(a) Visual Arts 1010 - Introductory Painting
(b) Visual Arts 2041 - Intermediate Painting
(c) Visual Arts 3041 - Advanced Painting
(d) Visual Arts 4041 - Senior Painting Seminar
7. Minor Program in Printmaking
A minor in Printmaking requires an overall average of 70% in the following 3.5 FCEs:
(a) Visual Arts 1070 - Introductory Printmaking
(b) Visual Arts 2143 - Intermediate Printmaking
(c) Visual Arts 3141 - Advanced Printmaking
(d) Visual Arts 4141 - Senior Printmaking Seminar
8. Minor Program in Sculpture
A minor in Sculpture requires an overall average of 70% in the following 3.5 FCEs:
(a) Visual Arts 1030 - Introductory Sculpture
(b) Visual Arts 2121 - Intermediate Sculpture
(c) Visual Arts 3001 - Advanced Sculpture
(d) Visual Arts 4003 - Senior Sculpture Seminar
Note:
Students registered in the HBFA (Visual Arts Major) and BA (Visual Arts Major) programs are not eligible for these minors.
9. Concurrent Programs with Education
A. The Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) is offered concurrently with a Bachelor of Education degree (I/S Specialization only). Prior to the Professional Year, students should follow the HBFA program requirements; however, they should also include the prior to entry into the Professional Year requirements of the Intermediate-Senior Specialization, as listed on pages 70-71. Note:
For students in concurrent honours bachelor degree programs, 1.5 FCEs of required Education courses will be taken instead of electives in the HBFA program, prior to entering the Professional Year.
B. The BA (Visual Arts) 3-year degree is offered concurrently with a Bachelor of Education degree (P/J and J/I Specializations only).
