Part-time students in financial need may be eligible to receive assistance through one of the above programs. The type of assistance available depends on the reason for studying part-time; for example, only require a few courses to complete a program, insufficient resources to study full-time, single parent with small children at home.
Needy part-time students may be eligible to receive assistance through the Ontario Special Bursary Plan if they are receiving social assistance, are unemployed or have low family incomes, or through the Part-time Canada Student Loans Program.

Bursaries (for Undergraduate Part-time Students)

Part-time bursaries are awards made primarily on the basis of financial need. For further information, contact the Financial Aid Office, Lakehead University. First Nations and Inuit Health Branch Native Students Bursary for Aboriginal Health
Number of awards and values vary;
Individual bursary may not exceed $1,000
Total award $3,360 (O-MEDBI)
Established to provide incentive to full- and part-time students interested in pursuing Aboriginal Health as a career, and in expanding the current knowledge base of multidisciplinary approaches in those professions geared towards improving Aboriginal health. Awarded to a student of Aboriginal Ancestry, on the basis of financial need, registered in the School of Nursing, including the Native Nurses Entry Program. Preference shall be given to full-time students. A Lakehead University Part-Time Student Bursary Application is required.

Established to provide incentive to full- and part-time students interested in pursuing Aboriginal Health as a career, and in expanding the current knowledge base of multidisciplinary approaches in those professions geared towards improving Aboriginal health. Awarded on the basis of financial need to any nursing student seeking clinical experience in a native community. Preference shall be given to full-time students. A Lakehead University Part-time Student Bursary Application is required.

Awarded on the basis of financial need to part-time undergraduate students. A Lakehead University Part-Time Student Bursary Application is required.

Lakehead University Student Union (LUSU) Part-time Bursary
$300 (A-LSPBI)
Awarded on the basis of financial need to a part-time undergraduate student. A Lakehead University Part-Time Student Bursary Application is required.

Lakehead University Student Union (LUSU) Spring/Summer Bursary
$500 (A-LSUPI)
Awarded to a student demonstrating financial need who is registered in at least two full credits (or the equivalent) during the Spring and/or Summer Sessions. The student must have attended Lakehead University as a full-time student during the previous Fall/ Winter Sessions and must be registered in the 3rd, or 4th year of his/her program. A Lakehead University Part-Time Student Bursary Application is required.

Women's Studies Bursary
$200 (WOMBI)
Awarded to a full or part-time Women's Studies student on the basis of financial need and a minimum 'B' standing. A Lakehead University Part-Time Student Bursary Application is required.

Scholarships, Awards, Prizes to Part-time Students

Millie Barrett Memorial Award
$1,100 (MBMAI)
Created by family and friends in 1992 in memory of Millie Barrett who was an instrumental force in the social, cultural and political fabric of Northwestern Ontario. (Information is available at the Chancellor Paterson Library, Northern Studies Resource Centre, regarding Ms Barrett's contribution to the Region). Awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate in-course student pursuing studies in the political, historical or social-cultural disciplines. The successful recipient will submit a written summary outlining her/his political and/or community involvement in Northwestern Ontario. Preference will be given to female or aboriginal students. A Lakehead University Scholarship/Award Application is required.

Canadian Suomi Foundation Award
(UNDER REVIEW)
$600 (A-CSFAE/I)
Number of awards vary.
The Canadian Suomi Foundation offers awards to students who are taking or have taken a Finnish course. The awards are made on the basis of academic standing or financial need. A Lakehead University Scholarship/Award Application is required.

The following awards require no application as they are awarded on the basis of recommendation by the respective Faculty, Department or School to the Financial Aid Office, Lakehead University.

Faculty of Business Administration Development Fund Award

$180 (SBADI)
Awarded annually on the recommendation the Faculty of Business Administration to a high ranking full or part-time student entering the final year of the Bachelor of Administration Degree or the third year of the Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree program.

Emma and William Kraft Memorial Prize
$200 (EWKMI)
Established by Mrs. Hilja Rydholm and supported by the family of William and Emma Kraft in their memory. Awarded on the recommendation by the Department of Languages to a full-time or part-time student with the highest mark in any Finnish course. Preference shall be given to Canadian born student having Finnish ancestry.

Thunder Bay Public Library Award
$100 (TBPLI)
Awarded to an in-course part-time or full-time student who has taken or is taking Library and Information Studies courses.
