Topics include mathematicsĀ concepts and processes which prospective teachers require for effective and conceptually-rich classroom teaching. As well as examining the conceptual underpinnings to, and connections within, middle to upper elementary and junior secondary mathematics topics, the course will include a focus on modeling and reasoning as needed to support problem-based learning. Standard and non-standard algorithms will be developed via inquiry, modeling and sense-making.
