Applying to Lakehead


Before applying to Lakehead University, students should refer to Lakehead University’s general admission requirements and program specific prerequisites. Students are encouraged to contact Enrolment Services – Undergraduate Admissions to discuss program options, admission requirements and deadline dates for admission consideration.

Students must be admitted to Lakehead University before registration can occur.

Application Forms

1. Students currently attending an Ontario high school will apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre online at as a OUAC 101 applicant. A Pin number is required to start the application process and will be distributed by the high school Guidance Office (normally in the fall).

2. Students currently attending an out-of-province or international high school as well as mature, college and university transfer students will apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre online at as a OUAC 105 applicant.

3. Previous Lakehead University students and applicants interested in studying on a part-time basis will apply on the internal Lakehead University “Undergraduate Application for Part-Time and Returning Students” available via
During the application process, applicants will be required to identify the program and major to which they are applying.

Applicants who have been required to withdraw from another post-secondary institution for academic and/or non-academic behavioural reasons, are not eligible to be considered for admission for at least 12 months following the date of dismissal. Admission is not automatic. Such applicants must meet the competitive admission criteria specified by the individual program.

It is the student's responsibility to ensure that application information is truthful, complete and correct. The University reserves the right to verify any information provided as part of the application. If information in the application form is determined to be false or misleading, concealed or withheld, the application may be invalidated which could result in its immediate rejection or in the revocation of an offer of admission or expulsion from the University. Information about a rejection or revocation of an application may be shared with universities and colleges across Canada. The determination of whether an application contains false or misleading information or that an applicant has concealed or withheld information and with which universities and colleges this information may be shared is solely in the discretion of the University, if applicable, and the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre.


Applicants who have qualified for admission will be notified with an official Offer of Admission to the University as well as the particular program to which they have been admitted, year level, conditions (if any) and transfer credit awarded, if applicable. Applicants who accept the University's Offer of Admission are required to submit an appropriate non-refundable deposit applicable against fees.

Once an applicant has accepted an Offer of Admission, they will be notified about course registration. For a Fall term start, registration normally opens in early summer. Continuing students will be notified about the registration process and dates. Students are encouraged to seek out academic advice during the registration process.

Registration is complete when the student has registered for their courses and has paid the first installment fees.

Every student must register at the commencement of each school year, and acquire a student identification card.

Once registration has been completed, courses may be added or dropped in accordance with the deadlines published in the Academic Schedule of Dates. Registration and course changes at the undergraduate level normally do not require approval, except for those courses, which require permission as indicated in the course description.


Students intending to seek admission to graduate and professional schools on completion of their degree should choose their first degree options in accordance with requirements for admission to these schools.


The University reserves the right to refuse admission to any candidate, and to refuse readmission if the student's academic performance or general conduct has been unsatisfactory. See also General University Regulation I(c). Although 70% is the minimum acceptable average for admission to degree programs, a higher average may be required. (Applicants below this level may be considered on an individual basis.) Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to either the University or a specific program.
