Honours BASc (Interdisciplinary Studies Major) College Pathways Program

Two Year program

Graduates from any four-semester (2-year) General Arts and Science Diploma or Liberal Arts Diploma college program in Ontario, with a 70% cumulative average or higher, may be admitted to the Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science (HBASc) (Interdisciplinary Studies Major) College Pathways program. To receive the full 8 FCEs of block transfer, reducing the remaining requirements to 12 FCEs, students must have completed the following courses as part of their college program: 

  • at least two one-semester courses of math, science, geography, or introductory psychology;
  • at least one one-semester course in Inquiry methods or Senior Academic Research (see Lakehead University Admissions website for list of acceptable college courses);
  • at least two one-semester college courses of advanced academic content (see Lakehead University Admissions website for list of acceptable college courses);
  • at least two introductory one-semester college courses in two (2) of the following areas: Anthropology, Biology, English Literature, Geography, General Science, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology (see Lakehead University Admissions website for list of acceptable college courses).

Students lacking such courses will be required to take them at Lakehead University in addition to the courses listed below.

This program requires completion of two areas of specialization. A faculty advisor should be consulted regarding course selection. Applicants who have taken more than the minimum advanced level or second year university courses as part of their college programs may be eligible to receive up to two FCEs of advanced standing toward requirements below.  

Meeting the minimum requirement does not guarantee admission to either the University or a specific program.  An overall average of 70% is required for graduation from the HBASc (Interdisciplinary Studies) College Pathways Program.

NOTES:
1. By the end of the HBASc (Interdisciplinary Studies) College Pathways program, at least two (2) FCEs must be from Area II.

2. As part of the program, students must complete one of the following methodological courses: Anthropology 2517, Biology 2910, English 2903, Environmental Sustainability 2033, Geography 2251, Geography 2271, Mathematics 2310, Media Studies 2230, Philosophy 2413, Political Science 2555, Psychology 2101, Sociology 2911.

First Year (Spring/Summer)
(a) One FCE in first area of specialization at second year level chosen in consultation with an academic advisor
(b) One FCE in second area of specialization at second year level chosen in consultation with an academic advisor

First Year (Fall/Winter)
(a) Interdisciplinary Studies 3010
(b) One FCE in first area of specialization at second year level
(c) One FCE in second area of specialization at second year level
(d) One FCE in first area of specialization at third or fourth year level
(e) One FCE in second area of specialization at third or fourth year level
(f) One half-course elective at second or third year level (Area II recommended)

Second Year (Fall/Winter)
(a) Interdisciplinary Studies 4010 and 4030, or Interdisciplinary Studies 4901
(b) One FCE in first area of specialization at third or fourth year level
(c) One FCE in second area of specialization at third or fourth year level
(d) Two FCE electives at second, third, or fourth year level (Area II recommended)
