Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education Programs Information

All BEd programs are accredited through the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). Graduates are recommended to the OCT for certification to teach in Ontario schools.

1. One-Year BEd program
A Professional Year of study after the completion of an approved undergraduate degree.

2. Five-year concurrent honours bachelor degree program
Professional courses are completed as part of a 5-year double degree. Students receive a BEd and an honours degree in a partnering discipline. The final (Professional) year has an emphasis on a special topic.

3. Four-year concurrent bachelor degree program
Education courses are completed as part of a 4 year double degree. Students receive a BEd and a degree in a partnering discipline. The final (Professional) year is identical to the one year BEd.


CONCURRENT CONTENT REGULATIONS

1. Science Electives
When Primary-Junior or Junior-Intermediate Concurrent Education programs require students to take one or more Science electives, these electives must be selected from among: Astronomy (General Science 2310 and 2330), Biology, Chemistry, General Science 1000, Geology, Meteorology (General Science 2010), and Physics. Anthropology (Science/Arts Credits only), Environmental Studies (Science Stream only), Geography (Science/Arts Credits only), and Computer Science, are also eligible. Students may need to meet prerequisites for some courses. General Science 1000 is recommended.

2. Music or Visual Arts Requirement
All Primary/Junior and Junior/Intermediate concurrent programs require students to take a minimum of one half-course in Music or Visual Arts.

3. Canadian Content
It is recommended that students in all concurrent programs include some Canadian content courses. When planning programs, students should note that courses may have prerequisites.


Concurrent Bachelor Degree Programs


A. Primary/Junior Specialization

The Bachelor of Education Degree for certification at the Primary/Junior level is offered concurrently with a bachelor degree in a partnering discipline in the following programs:
BA (Anthropology, English, French, General Program, Geography, History, Indigenous Learning, Mathematics, Philosophy, Psychology (4 and 5 Year), Sociology, Visual Arts, Women's Studies)
BSc (Anthropology, Chemistry (5 Year), Earth Science, General Program, Geography, Mathematics, Natural Science, Physics)
BASc (Interdisciplinary Studies - Orillia Campus)

B. Junior/Intermediate Specialization

The Bachelor of Education Degree at the Junior/Intermediate level is offered concurrently with a bachelor degree in a partnering discipline in the following programs:
BA (Anthropology, English, French, General Program, Geography, History, Indigenous Learning, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology (4 and 5 Year), Sociology, Visual Arts, Women's Studies)
BSc (Anthropology, Chemistry (5 Year), Earth Science, General Program, Geography, Mathematics, Natural Science, Physics

C. Intermediate/Senior Specialization

The Bachelor of Education Degree at the Intermediate/Senior level is offered concurrently with a bachelor degree in a partnering discipline in the following programs:
BA (Anthropology, English, French, General Program, Geography, History, Indigenous Learning, Mathematics, Psychology (4 and 5 Year))
BSc (Biology/Chemistry (5 Year), Chemistry (5 Year), Computer Science, Earth Science, General Program, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology (4 and 5 Year))
BESc (Biology (5 Year), Geography (5 Year))
BES (Geography (5 Year))
