Honours BA, BEd (Philosophy Major) P/J

Five Year program
BA basic requirement: a student may enter the Honours BA program in Philosophy after the first year with a B average in one FCE in Philosophy and one other full course acceptable to the Chair of the Department of Philosophy. An overall B average in at least four courses in Philosophy taken in the first two years, and an overall B average in the Philosophy courses taken in each of the succeeding years, is required by the Department. All courses will be chosen in consultation with the Department.

Prior to Entry into Professional Year
In concurrent Education programs at the Primary/Junior level, students must meet and complete requirements of the partnering honours bachelor degree program prior to entry into the Professional Year including:

1. 1 FCE in English, French or an Indigenous language
2. 1 FCE in Science (General Science 1000 recommended) (see Concurrent Bachelor of Education, Concurrent Content Regulations, #1 regarding eligible Science courses)
3. One half-course in Music or Visual Arts (Visual Arts 0510 recommended)
4. Education 2010 (.5 FCE)
5. Education 4417 and 4418 (.25 FCE x 2 = .5 FCE)
6. Education 4412, 4413, 4416, and one Education elective (see Electives in the Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education Courses list) (.25 FCE x 4=1 FCE)
7. A minimum cumulative average of 65% and a minimum major average of 70%
8. Students in the Honours BA, BEd (Indigenous Learning Major) are required to take one FCE in Native Language, Visual Arts 2060/Indigenous Learning 2060 and English 2702/Indigenous Learning 2702. Students should also take one FCE in English at the first-year level, including at least one of English 1111 or 1112, in the First Year. Students are encouraged to choose either Education 3235 or 3270 as their Education elective.

Note:
For students in concurrent honours bachelor degree programs, 2 (two) FCEs of required Education courses will be taken instead of electives in the HBA or HBSc program, prior to entering the Professional Year.

First Year:
Same as for the BA (Philosophy Major)

Second Year:
(a) Philosophy 2311, 2614, 2615
(b) One and a half FCEs in Philosophy
(c) Two FCE electives

Third Year:
(a) Philosophy 3313
(b) Philosophy 3314 or 3175
(c) Philosophy 3217 or 3218
(d) One and a half FCEs in Philosophy
(e) Two FCE electives

Fourth Year:
The Department of Philosophy subscribes to the concept of reading for a Degree, particularly at the fourth year level. All fourth year courses are offered as seminar courses on a rotating basis, or as reading courses in the case of Philosophy 4715 which may be substituted for any of the other courses under (a).
(a) Any three of: Philosophy 4311, 4313, 4314, 4317, 4318, 4711, 4715
(b) One and one-half FCEs in Philosophy preferably at the third or fourth year level
(c) Two FCE electives
