Honours BA, BEd (English Major) P/J

Five Year program
An overall B (70%) average in English courses through each year is required.

In addition to English 1111/1112 and 2903, students must complete at least eight (8) other FCEs in English, at least 1.5 FCE of which must be chosen from Area A and 1.0 FCE of which must be chosen from Area C (see English Courses, Grouping of Courses by Area).

Prior to Entry into Professional Year
In concurrent Education programs at the Primary/Junior level, students must meet and complete requirements of the partnering honours bachelor degree program prior to entry into the Professional Year including:

1. 1 FCE in English, French or an Indigenous language
2. 1 FCE in Science (General Science 1000 recommended) (see Concurrent Bachelor of Education, Concurrent Content Regulations, #1 regarding eligible Science courses)
3. One half-course in Music or Visual Arts (Visual Arts 0510 recommended)
4. Education 2010 (.5 FCE)
5. Education 4417 and 4418 (.25 FCE x 2 = .5 FCE)
6. Education 4412, 4413, 4416, and one Education elective (see Electives in the Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education Courses list) (.25 FCE x 4=1 FCE)
7. A minimum cumulative average of 65% and a minimum major average of 70%
8. Students in the Honours BA, BEd (Indigenous Learning Major) are required to take one FCE in Native Language, Visual Arts 2060/Indigenous Learning 2060 and English 2702/Indigenous Learning 2702. Students should also take one FCE in English at the first-year level, including at least one of English 1111 or 1112, in the First Year. Students are encouraged to choose either Education 3235 or 3270 as their Education elective.

Note:
For students in concurrent honours bachelor degree programs, 2 (two) FCEs of required Education courses will be taken instead of electives in the HBA or HBSc program, prior to entering the Professional Year.

First Year:
(a) English 1111 and 1112
(b) One FCE from Group I (see Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, First Year Arts Program Grouping Requirements)
(c) Two FCEs from Group II (see Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, First Year Arts Program Grouping Requirements )
(d) One FCE elective

Notes:
1. Students contemplating graduate work should consider language courses among their options.
2. English 1111 and English 1112 may be taken in either order.

Second Year:
(a) English 2903
(b) One other FCE in English at the second year level
(c) One FCE in English (English 1074, 1238 and 1807 do not count for purposes of fulfilling this requirement.)
(d) Two FCE electives (English excluded)

Third Year:
(a) Two FCEs in English at the third year level
(b) Two FCE electives (English allowed, except for English 1074, 1238 and 1807)
(c) One FCE elective (English excluded)

Fourth Year:
(a) One FCE in English at the fourth year level
(b) Three FCEs in English at the third or fourth-year level
(c) One FCE elective (English courses beyond the first-year level allowed.)

Note:
Students who are contemplating graduate work in English are strongly encouraged to take English 4914 and/or English 4916.
