Business Programs Information

The Faculty of Business Administration offers two degree programs:
(a) The Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree, a four year program. Students can also be admitted to the third year of the Honours Bachelor of Commerce College Transfer Program to complete the requirements of the Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree. 
(b) The Bachelor of Administration degree, a one year program after completion of the first two years of the Honours Bachelor of Commerce program. Students can also be admitted to a one-year College Transfer program to complete the requirements of the Bachelor of Administration degree.

In addition to selecting a major, business students may select a minor as part of their program. Minors consist of 3 or 4 specified half-course equivalents beyond the second year level. Non-business students can pursue two certificate programs in the Faculty of Business Administration. Two programs are offered exclusively at the Orillia Campus, the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Business Administration Major) and the Bachelor of Administration College Transfer Program at Orillia.

1. Honours Bachelor of Commerce

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT:
Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent. One credit each in Gr. 12 U English and Math; 4 additional Gr. 12 U or M credits. (Note: Applicants without Gr. 12 U Math will be considered for admission but will be required to take a 0.5 FCE prescribed course as a First Year elective.)

CONTINUATION REQUIREMENT (FIRST YEAR TO SECOND YEAR):
Satisfactory completion of all courses required for Year I - Honours Bachelor of Commerce with an overall average of at least 60%.

CONTINUATION REQUIREMENT (SECOND YEAR TO THIRD YEAR):
(a) Satisfactory completion of Year II - Honours Bachelor of Commerce with an overall average of at least 70% based on all Year II courses
(b) The student must meet the pre-requisite for each elective selected.

CONTINUATION REQUIREMENT (THIRD YEAR TO FOURTH YEAR):
Satisfactory completion of Year III - Honours Bachelor of Commerce with an overall average of at least 70% based on all Year III courses.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT:
Satisfactory completion of all courses required for Year IV - Honours Bachelor of Commerce with an overall average of at least 70% based on all Year IV courses.

2. Honours Bachelor of Commerce Co-operative Option

REGULATIONS
(a) To be considered for admission to this special program, a student must have satisfactorily completed all courses required for Year I. Students are selected on a competitive basis.
(b) The University will provide employment contacts with participating employers for each student prior to each work period. Students must apply for placement opportunities. Employers make hiring decisions on a competitive basis.
(c) Year to year continuation in the program requires that regular program requirements be met, and all required Business Work Placements be successfully completed.
(d) Work term credits (Business Work Placements) are not applicable towards the completion of a regular Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree or Bachelor of Administration degree.

3. Business Minor Programs

Minors are available for Honours Bachelor of Commerce students in their third or fourth years. To successfully complete any business minor, a student must achieve a minimum course mark of 60% in each of the courses specified in the minor.

4. Bachelor of Administration

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT:

(a) Satisfactory completion of Year II - Honours Bachelor of Commerce with an overall average of at least 60% based on all Year II courses.
(b) The student must meet the prerequisite for each elective selected.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT:

Satisfactory completion of Year III - B. Admin. with an overall average of at least 60% in courses used as credit for Year III - Business Administration.

5. Honours Bachelor of Commerce Transfer Program from Bachelor of Administration

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Administration degree, students with a 70% average in all their business subjects may enter a special Honours Bachelor of Commerce transfer program.

Regulation 1. Courses used as credit towards obtaining the Bachelor of Administration Degree may not be used as credit in the third or fourth years of the Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree Program. Where a course taken toward the Bachelor of Administration Degree is equivalent to one specified for the third or fourth year of the Honours Bachelor of Commerce Program, students will be required to take a substitute course specified by the Faculty of Business Administration.

Regulation 2. Courses used as credit towards obtaining the Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree may not be used as credit in the one year Bachelor of Administration Degree Program. Where a course taken toward the Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree is equivalent to one specified for the B. Admin. Program, students will be required to take a substitute course specified by the Faculty of Business Administration.

6. Entrepreneur Certificate Program

A series of courses designed to improve the competence of individuals in setting up and running their own business.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT:
This program is only open to non-business students enrolled in any degree program at Lakehead University.

ACADEMIC REGULATIONS:
1. All required courses must be taken at Lakehead University.
2. The certificate will be conferred at the same time as/upon completion of a degree at Lakehead University provided the student has attained a grade of no less than 60% in each of the courses of the certificate program.

7. Certificate in Business Information Technology Management

A series of courses designed to improve the competence of individuals in establishing and managing information technologies in organizational settings.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
This certificate is fully open to non-business students enrolled in any degee program from Lakehead University except for business students and computer science studets with the Business Option.

ACADEMIC REGULATIONS:
1. Students must be registered in the certificate prior to the completion of 50% of the course requirements for the course of study.
2. All courses required for the certificate must be taken from Lakehead University.
3. Students must attain a minimum grade of 60% in each of the courses of the certificate program.
