Honours BSc (Applied Life Sciences Major)(TB)

Four Year program

The major average in Applied Life Sciences will be calculated on all required courses, including those specified in the List of Recommended Courses for third and fourth year of the program, but not including the open electives.

First Year:
(a) Anthropology 1032, Biology 1110 and 1130
(b) Chemistry 1110, 1130
(c) Physics 1113 and 1133, or Physics 1211 and 1212
(d) Mathematics 1151 and 1152, or Mathematics 1171 and 1172
(e) One half-course elective (One of English 1011, 1031, 1111, or 1112 recommended)

Second Year:
(a) Anthropology 2110 and Biology 2171
(b) Chemistry 2211 and 2231
(c) Two of: Chemistry 2111, 2411, 3131 or Anthropology 2112
(d) Biology 2230, 2711, and 2910
(e) One half-course elective

Third Year:
(a) Anthropology 3138
(b) Chemistry 3251/Biology 3252 and Chemistry 3271/Biology 3272
(c) Mathematics 2310 and 2311 or Kinesiology 3030 and one half-course elective
(d) One and one-half FCE electives from the List of Recommended Courses below
(e) One FCE elective

Fourth Year:
(a) Three FCEs from the List of Recommended Courses below
(b) Two FCE electives

Notes:
1. A maximum of 0.5 FCE per term and a maximum of 1.0 FCE per calendar year can be taken from any combination of directed reading, independent research, and thesis courses. Students can only take one research thesis course in their honours degrees. Exceptions require permission of the academic advisor. (Some examples of this type of course are: APBI 4811, BIOL 3990, PHYS 4501.)
2. If the student is considering graduate school, it is strongly recommended that the 3.0 FCEs from the List of Recommended Courses in Fourth Year include a research thesis. Students need to arrange for a faculty supervisor before the start of Fourth Year if they wish to register in a thesis course.
