The following 2013-2014 Endowed and Non-Endowed Donor In-Course Scholarship and Award Funds for the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies (with no application) are available. Note: Instead of dollar amount, "Not Available", indicates that donor funds are unavailable for this year.

$100 (ARISI)
Awarded to a high ranking in-course student in the Bachelor of Science Degree program. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee.

ANTHROPOLOGY

Peter Barz Memorial Silver Jubilee Scholarship
$200 (SJPBI)
Established by Josefina Barz in memory of her husband, Peter, in recognition of his lifetime interest in archaeology. Awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Anthropology to a high ranking in-course student entering the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of the BA or HBA or BSc or HBSc Anthropology or BSc or HBSc Geoarchaeology program. The recipient must register in at least one archaeology course.

BIOLOGY

Biology Prize
$200 (BIOPI)
Each year the Biology Department awards a prize to the highest ranking full or part-time graduating student.

Dorothy E. Dove Award
$100 (DEDAI)
Awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Biology to a Lakehead University student of high academic standing entering the third or fourth year of a degree program in Biology (Botany) or Agriculture. This award recognizes the contribution made by the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition to the community of Thunder Bay.

Frank R. and Dorothy E. Dove Award
$100 (FDDAI)
Awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Biology to a Lakehead University student of high academic standing entering the third or fourth year of a degree program in Biology (Botany) or Agriculture. This award recognizes the contribution made by the Thunder Bay Horticultural Society to the community of Thunder Bay.

Thunder Bay Horticultural Society Award
$250 (A-TBHSI)
Awarded on the recommendation of the Scholarship/Awards Committee of the Biology Department to a student interested in horticulture. The student must major in Biology and have achieved a high academic standing in Biology 3114 - Plant Ecology. When the aforementioned course is offered in an alternate year, the Department of Biology may choose another course of similar nature.

CHEMISTRY

Bora Laskin Memorial Scholarship
$350 (BLMSI)
Established in 1975 by the Norman M. Paterson Foundation in memory of the Right Honourable Bora Laskin, who was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada from 1971 to 1980. The Bora Laskin Memorial Scholarship will be awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Chemistry to a student entering the second year of the Chemistry program. Preference may be given to students taking an energy and environmental science option. Minimum overall average of 80% is required.

Norman W. Simmons Scholarship
$200 (NWSSI)
Established by Hilda E. Simmons in memory of her brother. Awarded on the basis of academic standing to a student entering the final year of the Bachelor of Science or Honours Bachelor of Science, with a major in Chemistry.

ECONOMICS

National Transportation Week Association Award
$100 (NTWAI)
Awarded to a high ranking student in the Department of Economics with proven interest in the relationship between transportation and economics.  Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the Department of Economics.

Iris Jean Richards Memorial Award Economics
"Not Available" (IRECI)
Established, in perpetuity, in 1969 by the late Professor Tim Ryan; Dean, Faculty of Arts, in memory of his wife; awarded annually to a full or part-time student in a Social Sciences and Humanities Degree program who, at the end of the first year, obtains the highest marks in Economics 1100.

Thunder Bay Port Authority Award In Economics
$300 (TBHPI)
Established in 1995, by the Thunder Bay Harbour Commission. Awarded to a high ranking student in the Department of Economics, with a proven interest in the relationship between transportation and economics. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the Department of Economics.

Sophie Wydra Memorial Award
$500 (A-SWMAI)
Awarded to an in-course student, majoring in Economics. Financial need may be considered. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the Department of Economics.

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

Geography Undergraduate Prize
$100 (GEGPI)
Created by the Department of Geography as a legacy of its hosting the Canadian Association of Geographers' Annual Meeting in May 2006. Awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Geography to a high-ranking student graduating from an Honours program in Geography or Environmental Studies (Geography) and who has either completed an undergraduate thesis or shown promise for graduate study.

Roy Saukko Memorial Award
$150 (SAUKI)
Established in 1995 by family and friends of Roy Saukko. Awarded annually to an undergraduate student in his/her third or fourth year or to a graduate student in Geology who demonstrates strong interest and potential in the exploration aspects of geology. The Department of Geology will forward their selection to Student Awards and Financial Aid or Graduate Studies.

MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES

Department of Mathematical Sciences Award
3 x $100 (DMATA)
The Department of Mathematical Sciences awards a maximum of three awards to students at the first, second and third year level, based primarily on the marks achieved in Mathematics courses. Only students enrolled in programs offered by Department of Mathematical Sciences are eligible.

Mathematical Sciences Prize
2 x $100 (MPRZI)
At most two prizes will be awarded to high ranking graduating students in Mathematics.
