The following 2013-2014 Endowed and Non-Endowed Donor In-Course Scholarship and Award Funds for the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences (with no application) are available. Note: Instead of dollar amount, "Not Available", indicates that donor funds are unavailable for this year.

 

GERONTOLOGY

Dorothea Crittenden Award in Gerontology
$150 (DCGAI)
Awarded to a continuing full-time undergraduate student on the basis of academic performance with a major concentration in Gerontology. The recipient will be determined on the recommendation of the Program Coordinator in Gerontology.


NURSING

The Mary and Doug Alexander Memorial Nursing Award
"Not Available" (A-ALMNI)
Created in 1993 by her husband, Doug Alexander in her memory. Awarded to a full-time third year student in the Bachelor of Nursing Degree Program who demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills, along with technical competence, effective decision making and attitudes that promote the patient's welfare. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

General Hospital of Port Arthur School of Nursing Alumnae Scholarship
$450 (GHPSI)
Created by the General Hospital of Port Arthur School of Nursing Alumnae, 1909-1970; and awarded to a third or fourth year nursing student of high academic standing, who demonstrates attitudes that promote the patient's welfare. Recipients will be determined on the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Dolores Kivi Award in Nursing
$500 (A-DKNAI)
Created by the children of Dolores Kivi, in honour of her birthday. Awarded to an in-course Nursing student with high academic standing who also demonstrates outstanding care-giving and dedication to clients. The recipient will be determined on the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

The Myrna Lou (Evans) Kristensen Award in Nursing
$100 (MLKAI)
To be awarded to a student entering his/her second year in the School of Nursing at Lakehead University. This award will recognize academic excellence and outstanding student citizenship and is awarded in perpetuity on the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Doris Johnston Leslie Memorial Scholarship
$650 (DJLII)
Established by Miss Hilda E. Simmons in memory of her cousin. Awarded on the basis of recommendation by the School of Nursing to a student of high academic standing entering the final year of the Nursing Degree program.

The Olga Merz Memorial Scholarship in Nursing
3 x $400 (MOSNI)
Established in 1994, by her husband William Merz in her loving memory. Awarded to a high ranking student entering the second, third or fourth year of the Nursing program who demonstrates outstanding care-giving, by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

Mary O'Rourke Nursing Award
$300 (MONAI)
Established in 2000 by Mary O'Rourke. Awarded to a student entering the third or fourth year of the Nursing program, on the basis of academic standing and dedication to clients. The recipient will be determined on the recommendation of the School of Nursing.

PSYCHOLOGY

Charles King Hague Memorial Award in Psychology
$200 (CKHMI)
Awarded to a student entering the fourth year of the Honours Psychology program. This award will recognize academic standing and outstanding student citizenship and is awarded in perpetuity on the recommendation of the Department of Psychology.

The Logozzo Family Lakehead University 30th Anniversary Award in Psychology
$100 (LFPAI)
Established in 1996, this award will be presented annually to a full-time student from Northwestern Ontario registered in the third or fourth year of the Honours Bachelor of Psychology Degree program. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the Chair, Department of Psychology.

SOCIAL WORK

Hubert Badanai Scholarship - Social Work
$300 (HBSSI)
Awarded on the basis of high academic standing to a second or third year student registered in the Honours Bachelor of Social Work Degree program.

The Jennifer Lynn Webster and Andrew Jussi Wierikko Award
$100 (WJWJI)
Established by their uncle, Bob Welsh, in appreciation of the joy, wonder, and excitement that Jennifer Webster and Andrew Wierikko have created as the youngest niece and nephew of the extended Welsh Family. Awarded to an Honours Bachelor of Social Work student who has completed Social Work 3630 - Social Work Practice with Children and Families, or Social Work 3413 - Child Welfare. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee on the recommendation of the School of Social Work.
