The following 2013-2014 Endowed and Non-Endowed Donor In-Course Scholarship and Award Funds are available to all faculties by application. Note: Instead of dollar amount, "Not Available", indicates that donor funds are unavailable for this year.

Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay Lakehead University 30th Anniversary Award
$100 (ALZAI)
Awarded to an in-course student in any discipline who displays a special interest in Alzheimer Disease either through academic, community or family involvement. Application available on the Lakehead University website.

Canadian Suomi Foundation Award
4 x $600 (A-CSFAE/I)
Total Award $2,400
The Canadian Suomi Foundation offers awards to full-time entrance or in-course students who are taking a Finnish course. The awards are made on the basis of satisfactory academic standing or financial need. Application available on the Lakehead University website.

Annie May Chapple Scholarship
$300 (AMCSI)
Awarded to a full-time, high-ranking students with financial need enrolled in Psychology. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

The Carlotta and Vittorio Del Bianco Memorial Scholarship
$500 (CVDSI)
Awarded to a deserving student in any Faculty currently enrolled in an Italian Studies course. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

The Lloyd Dennis Award (Orillia Campus)
An award for outstanding citizenship will be presented to the full-time student selected by his/her fellows, the faculty and administration as contributing most to the welfare of the University through his/her student activities. Current members of the Lakehead University Student Union; President, Vice-President (Finance) and Vice-President (Student Issues) are considered eligible for nomination. A Lloyd Dennis Award Nomination Form is required. Nomination Form is available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Employee Staff Fund Award
$250 (ESFAI)
Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing who has financial need and is the dependent of a currently employed Lakehead University employee. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Frederick F. Gilbert Aboriginal Scholarship
$1,500 (O2-FFGSI)
Awarded to an aboriginal student who has achieved and 80+ average in any program and has demonstrated financial need. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

The Hayes Family Arts and Science Scholarship (Orillia Campus)
$500 (O2-LJHSI)
Created by Drs. Laurie Schultz Hayes and James Todd Hayes for full-time students in the third or fourth year of the HBASc (Interdisciplinary Studies Major) at the Orillia Campus who have achieved an 80+ average. Financial need may also be a consideration. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and must have lived in Ontario for 12 consecutive months prior to receiving this award. Dr. Laurie Schultz Hayes was Lakehead University's Vice-President (Academic) and Provost when the Orillia campus was proposed and opened. She designed and championed the HBASc as an interdisciplinary major from the start. The Drs. Hayes and their children believe in the value of studying the arts and sciences together and want to support students who share their interdisciplinary commitment. New Sun Eric Harvie Memorial Aboriginal Award (Orillia Campus)
$400 (NSMAI)
Awarded to a Canadian Aboriginal student entering the second year of a degree program at the Orillia campus, preferably educaiton the a demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated leadership through voluntary community involvement and/or University activities. New Sun Joy Harvie Maclaren Aboriginal Award (Orillia Campus)
$4,500 (02-NSAAI)
Awarded to an Ontario Aboriginal student entering his/her second year of an undegraduate degree program in any discipline at the Orillia campus. The recipient must have achieved a degree of academic success, indicating a commitment to further his/her studies and who has financial need. Preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated leadership through voluntary community involvement and/or University campus activities. New Sun Joy Harvie Maclaren Aboriginal Post-Secondary Transfer Award (Orillia Campus)
$1,500 (02-NSTAI)
Awarded to a continuing Canadian Aboriginal student who is transferring from another post-secondary institution (community college or university), with or without advanced standing credits and is entering full-time studies at the Orillia campus. The successful recipient must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident and must have been a resident of the Province of Ontario for 12 consecutive months prior to receiving this award. The recipient must have satisfactory academic achievement and financial need. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated community leadership as evidenced through community service. William and Dorothy Hyndman Award
(10 x $3,000), (A-WDHAI)
Established in 2013, the William and Dorothy Hyndman Award for a continuing student enrolled in their second, third or fourth year in any degree program, who attained an overall average of B+ (minimum 75%) standing in their previous year. The recipient must also be a Canadian citizen and born in Canada. Preference will be given to students who have graduated from a high school in Northwestern Ontario. The Jewish Community of Thunder Bay Shaarey Shomayim Congregation Silver Jubilee Award
$250 (SJJCI)
Awarded to an undergraduate student in the final year of any degree program with a minimum 'B' standing or to a graduate student. Preference shall be given to a student of Jewish heritage who has demonstrated involvement in his/her Jewish Community, the Jewish Community of Thunder Bay or LUSU Jewish Students' Society. This award may be received only one time by the applicant. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

The Arthur and Ruth Kajander Merit Award
$2,200 (O-ARKAI)
Created in 1998 by the Arthur and Ruth Kajander family. Awarded to an in-course undergraduate student. Priority will be given to students with an overall average of 85% or above. Applicants will be considered on the basis of academic excellence in Math and Science, demonstrated leadership and social responsibility, and an appreciation for the impact of a well rounded liberal education on an individual's quality of life and personal development. Financial need will be considered. In general, applicants will be selected based on academic achievement, civic mindedness and their ability to communicate these attributes effectively both orally and in writing. An interview will be required for short-listed candidates. The student must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant of Canada and must have lived in Ontario for at least twelve consecutive months. The recipient will be registered through the Thunder Bay Campus, and be a resident of Northwestern Ontario. The Maurice "Moe" Ktytor Memorial Award
$1,300 (O2-MKMAI)
Created in 2004 by friends and colleagues, in honour of Moe, whose spirit and commitment spanned his 35-year career with Lakehead University. Awarded to an in-course student, who through community involvement, demonstrates a commitment to the betterment of his or her community. Financial need will be considered. The Aileen Lahti Memorial Award
$1250 (03-ALMAI)
Created through the estate of Aileen Lahti to assist students in their pursuit of studies at Lakehead University. Awarded to a student with high academic standing and financial need. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Lakehead University Residence Award
$500 (LURZI)
Awarded on the recommendation of the Residence Council to a student who has lived in Residence for at least one year prior to applying and is returning to Residence the following September. The Award will recognize a student who has an academic standing of a least 70%, who has participated in residence sports and has contributed in some way to the life of Residence. The student should exhibit good sportsmanship, congeniality, enthusiasm towards residence functions and consideration for fellow students. A the time of applying the recipient cannot be a Residence Assistant. A Special Application is required. Contact the Residence Office.

Lakehead University Student Union (LUSU) Involvement Award (Thunder Bay Campus and Orillia Campus)
2 x $250 (SUIAI)
Awarded to a student who is involved in campus activities which promote student inclusion, community and general student well-being. Awarded on the recommendation of the LUSU Executive Committee. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Mr. and Mrs. James MacAllan Munro Family Memorial Prize - Poetry
$100 (MMPOI)
Poets among Lakehead University students are encouraged to submit their unpublished poems to the Department of English. The submissions will be judged by three members of the Department of English whose decisions will be final. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Mr. and Mrs. James MacAllan Munro Family Memorial Prize - Prose
$100 (MMPRI)
To be awarded annually to a student at Lakehead University on the basis of competition. Entries may be either fiction or non-fiction. All submissions will be judged by three members of the Department of English whose decision will be final. A Lakehead University Mr. and Mrs. James MacAllan Munro Family Memorial Prize - Prose Entry form is available on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards website.

The Bridget Veronica Morton Memorial Award
$250 (BVMMI)
Award to a continuing student of Native Canadian Heritage on the basis of academic standing, leadership and participation in extra curricular activities which foster Native culture. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Northern Credit Union Award
"Not Available" (A-NCUAI)
Award to a full-time student in any program who holds a minimum 65% average and has graduated from a Red Rock or Thunder Bay high school. Recipient, parents, or grandparents must be a member of the Northern Credit Union. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Dr. S. Penny Petrone Career in Medicine Scholarship
10 x $1,100 (DPMSI)
Created through the Estate of Dr. Petrone, Professor Emerita of Education at Lakehead University from 1969 to 1988, and in recognition of her wish to support the future physicians of Northwestern Ontario. Awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement to students considering a career in medicine. Awarded by the Senate Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries Committee. Polish Alliance of Canada Ladies Circle Branch 19 Award
"Not Available" (PACCI)
Awarded annually on the basis of need and satisfactory academic performance to a full-time undergraduate student of Polish origin or his/her spouse, enrolled in any program or year level at Lakehead University. Application available on the Lakehead University website.

Polish Combatants R.C.L. Branch 219 Past Presidents' Award
$100 (PCPPI)
Established by the Polish Combatants Association Branch #1 of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 219, in memory of all the Polish people whose lives were drastically altered by the Second World War. Awarded to a high-ranking continuing student. Preference shall be given to a student of Polish ancestry. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

The Poulin Award (Thunder Bay Campus)
An award for outstanding citizenship presented to the full-time student selected by his/her fellows, the faculty and administration as contributing most to the welfare of the University through his/her student activities. Current members of the Lakehead University Student Union; President, Vice-President (Finance) and Vice-President (Student Issues) are considered eligible for nomination. A Poulin Award Nomination Form is required. Nomination Form is available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

The President's Awards (Undergraduate)
Awards will be given annually to full-time or part-time graduating students from Lakehead University. Students must have occupied positions of responsibility in student organizations and/or, by their activities and achievements, have made contributions that have earned them the special gratitude of a Department, School, Faculty and/or the University. The must also have satisfactory academic performance. A President's Award Nomination Form is required. Nomination Form is available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Rotary Club of Orillia Scholarship (Orillia Campus)
$2,000 (A-RCOSI)
Established by the Rotary Club of Orillia to assist an aspiring leader within Orillia in the completion of his/her studies. Awarded to a full-time in-course student in any program at the Lakehead University Orillia Campus. The recipient will demonstrate academic achievement with preference given to those actively involved in student life and/or active in the community, and/or active in international activities. The Club welcomes the student recipient to annually attend and participate in a Rotary Club of Orillia meeting. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Sodexo Leadership Awards (Thunder Bay and Orillia Campus)
2 x $540 (A-SODAI)
Awarded to a full-time student in any discipline in good academic standing who has demonstrated leadership in the community and at the Orillia campus as evidenced through such things as community and volunteer service.Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Luka Stefureak-Coppola Memorial Award
$500 (A-LSCAI)
Established in 2012 in memory of Luka Mateo Stefureak-Coppola who was born and died tragically on December 22, 2011. Words at his funeral spoke of dreams never to be realized and a life that had no opportunity to make a difference. This award hopefully will assist students to achieve goals that Luka could not. Awarded to a student entering their third year of a program in Business or Political Science with a average of 75% or more. Financial need may be a consideration but not a requirement. TD Impact Award
$1500 (A-TDIAI)
Awarded to a full-time student attending the Orillia campus in any discipline in financial need and outlining demonstrated community contributions.Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Tamblyn Family Orillia Scholarship (Orillia Campus)
$400 (O-TFOSI)
Awarded to an aboriginal student at the Lakehead University Orillia Campus who has achieved an 80%+ GPA in any program and demonstrated financial need. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Peggy Tripp Memorial Women's Studies Student Award
$650 (PTWAI)
Awarded to a third or fourth year student with a minimum B average who displays exemplary community involvement in areas of women's issues, social justice and/or environmental issues. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.

Annie Werbicka Childs Aboriginal Undergraduate Award
$1,250 (A-WCAAE/A-WCAAI)
Awarded to an undergraduate aboriginal student registered in any program based on academic performance and financial need. Application available on the Student Awards and Financial Aid website.
