Honours BFA, BEd (Visual Arts Major) I/S

Five Year program
The program offered by the Departments of Visual Arts and Undergraduate Studies in Education leads to the Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts, HBFA (Visual Arts), and Bachelor of Education (BEd), Intermediate-Senior Specialization.

Students are required to maintain a B average in their Visual Arts courses in order to remain in the program. All courses will be chosen in consultation with the departmental counselor prior to registration.

Prior to Entry into Professional Year
In concurrent education programs at the Intermediate/Senior level, students must meet and complete requirements of the partnering honours bachelor degree program prior to entry into the Professional Year including:

1. 1 FCE in English, French or an Indigenous language
2. Education 4417 and 4418 (.25 FCE x 2 = .5 FCE)
3. Education 4412, 4413, 4416 (.25 x 3 = .75 FCE)
4. Three Education electives (.25 x 3 = .75 FCE) (see Electives in the Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education Courses list) (Education 2011 (0.5 FCE) is recommended)
5. A minimum cumulative and teachable average of 65% and a minimum major average of 70%.
6. At least 5 FCEs in a first teachable subject and 3 FCEs in a second teachable subject, with at least one half-course (i.e., a minimum of 0.5 FCE) at the third or fourth-year level in each teachable subject (5 FCEs if the teachable is French or Native Languages, and a Computer Science, Music or Visual Arts degree if the teachable is Computer Studies, Music or Visual Arts). 7. Students in the Honours BA, BEd (Indigenous Learning Major) are required to take one FCE in Native Language, Visual Arts 2060/Indigenous Learning 2060 and English 2702/Indigenous Learning 2702. Students are encouraged to take one FCE in English at the first-year level, including at least one of English 1111 or 1112, in the First Year. Students are encouraged to choose either Education 3235 or 3270 as their Education elective.

Note:
For students in concurrent honours bachelor degree programs, 2 (two) FCEs of required Education courses will be taken instead of electives in the HBA or HBSc program, prior to entering the Professional Year.

First Year:

(d) VISU 1090 and 1091
(e) One FCE from Group II (see Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Regulations, First Year Arts Program Grouping Requirements)

Second Year:
(a) VISU 2220
(b) Two of the following Visual Art studio courses from second year level: Visual Arts 2021, 2041, 2101, 2121, 2143
(c) One studio course from second year level or an elective *
(d) A second FCE from Group II

Third Year:

(a) Two of the following Visual Arts studio courses from third year level which continues second year choice: Visual Arts 3001, 3021, 3041, 3101, 3141
(b) One second or third year Visual Arts studio course or an elective *
(c) One FCE from art history courses: Visual Arts 3230, 3231, 3821, 3880, 4211, 4213, 4250
(e) One FCE elective from Group 1 (see Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, First Year Arts Program Grouping Requirements)

Fourth Year:
(a) VISU 4010 and 4130
(b) VISU 4140
(c) Another Visual Arts studio course from third or fourth year levels, excluding Major Studio topic (Visual Arts 4140). Fourth year studio courses are: Visual Arts 4003, 4021, 4041, 4101, 4141.
(d) One FCE from: Visual Arts 3230, 3231, 3821, 4211, 4213, 4250
(e) One FCE elective to be determined in consultation with the Department of Visual Arts

Note:

* Students wishing to pursue a Master's Degree in studio art (MFA) are advised to select the studio course.
